Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP)

Department of Defense

From West Point to Guantanamo Bay, N-Com is continuing a long-term project designing local and wide area networks for the Department of Defense (DOD) at 17 military bases. The designs not only address the current transport requirements of the network but also the future technologies that will be utilized to provide a wide range of services including data, Voice over IP (VolP) and video. The designs also encompass security, encryption, content filtering and disaster survivability. The N-Com designed LAN/WAN networks that have already been implemented are now allowing the DOD schools to migrate to Voice over IP. N-Com is currently designing Voice over IP telephony systems and overseeing the deployment of these systems at several bases. These systems utilize IP telephones, unified voice mail messaging, and redundant server and interconnection designs to provide enhanced VoIP features while maintaining reliability. The VoIP systems will also allow base to base calls through the N-Com designed wide area network. The results of the LAN/WAN and VoIP deployments thus far have included significantly reduced network maintenance and operating costs, greatly increased bandwidth, and provide for the support of enhanced services.

Metropolitan Library System, Oklahoma County

N-Com is currently overseeing the implementation of a pure VolP telephony system at all of the nineteen libraries in the county-wide library system. The libraries will communicate via IP through a mostly fiber wide area network with a centralized VoIP call manager. Voice lines are being consolidated to centralized Tl trunks with redundancy at each library.
